Understanding these risks and how to prevent them can save lives and reduce injuries on site.

Preventing Falls on Construction Sites
Falls cause nearly one-third of construction fatalities. Workers often fall from ladders, roofs, scaffolds, or open edges. Preventing falls requires a combination of proper equipment, training, and site management.
Use fall protection systems such as guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems. For example, a worker on a roof should always wear a harness connected to a secure anchor point.
Inspect ladders and scaffolds daily to ensure they are stable and in good condition.
Train workers on safe climbing techniques and the importance of maintaining three points of contact on ladders.
Keep work areas clean and free of debris to reduce tripping hazards near edges.

Reducing Electrocution Hazards
Electrocutions rank among the leading causes of death on construction sites. Contact with live wires, faulty equipment, or improper grounding can cause fatal shocks.

Use ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) on all temporary power supplies.
Inspect cords and tools regularly for damage or wear.
Maintain safe distances from overhead power lines and use insulated tools.
For example, when working near power lines, use non-conductive ladders and maintain at least 10 feet of clearance. Training workers on electrical hazards and emergency response is essential.

Preventing Caught-In and Caught-Between Injuries
Caught-in or caught-between accidents occur when workers are trapped inside machinery, between objects, or under collapsing materials. These injuries often result in crushing or amputations.
